Derry, the owner had collected a variety of landrace cannabis seeds from countries such as Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Tibet, Thailand, Burma, Vietnam and China. Settling in the Himalayas for 3 years gave him the time and knowledge to begin to selectively breed these diverse strains, choosing phenotypes for their taste, aroma and THC levels. The most promising were then back-crossed in order to stabilise them. On his return to Europe Amsterdam provided the correct atmosphere and opportunity to further develop his strains and to launch them commercially as Barney's Farm Seeds. The coffeeshop was a great place for these strains to become known and celebrated by cannabis afficionados and they started to attract a lot of attention from smokers in general and the cannabis press in particular.
